Our Privacy and Confidentiality Promise

At New Avenues, Inc., doing business as New Avenues Employee Assistance Program and the Midwest Behavioral Health Network, Client Privacy and Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our business and, therefore, very important to us. Maintaining Client Privacy and Confidentiality is embedded in every aspect of our operation. Our promise is to uphold Confidentiality as defined: Confidentiality is the restriction of access to data and information to individuals who have a need, a reason, and permission for such access. We believe Confidentiality is a responsibility that is imposed on our professionals and the organization, because of their status, to protect the privacy of individuals as they enter into a professional relationship with them. Privacy is client information that is not available for public use and the right of individuals to protect sensitive information about themselves. If they reveal that information, it should be at a time and place of their choosing. While the nature of our business requires that we gather personal information about our clients, we know that this information must be protected. In order to adhere to Federal Regulations and State of Indiana statutes related to the confidentiality of information as well as to maintain sound business practices, New Avenues, Inc. expects its employees, providers, business partners, subcontractors, and anyone else who may have business relationships with the organization to adhere to its standards and policies on Privacy and Confidentiality.

The exceptions to Confidentiality include patient consent to release information, situations of suspected child or elder abuse, duty to protect an individual who is a serious risk of harm to self, duty to warn to protect others if a patient demonstrates substantial threat to harm to specific person(s); or disclosure is made to medical personnel in a medical emergency or Court Order. Fitness for duty examinations require prior release of information by the patient after being fully informed of the purpose of the examination and disclosure of how the results of the evaluation will be used.
